I have always loved historical fiction novels; they were my entree into loving fashion history. I still love sinking my teeth into a rich novel filled with details from a bygone time, but Pachinko is unique in that the novel spans four generations. This epic tackles themes of prejudice, power, and stereotyping, often focusing on the maltreatment of Koreans during and after World War II. The title, Pachinko, offers both foreshadowing and a peek into a metaphor that stood out to me while reading; that life is a gambling game filled with chance and uncertainty.
